ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season
just been through a truly awful experience. I have no doubt that Ciarán will have a bright future in the theatre. The only suggestion I might make for future roles would be to allow more pauses before or while speaking to show hesitancy or anxiety or uncertainty, which I would have expected to see more of in a portrayal of a young man who has been mistreated and traumatised his whole life like William. Ciarán should be very proud managing to carry so much on his shoulders as a very competent lead. James Newton's performance of Zacharias (Zach) Wrench was an equally impressive portrayal from another young actor, stealing every scene he was in. James really made the role his own, bringing an enormous energy to the stage every time Zach was present, and making the whole audience smile whether he was acting, dancing, singing or swashbuckling! James appeared to relish the role of the young thespian and I wondered how much of the characterisation of Zach came from James himself – there was such joy and honesty in the performance. Zach is Will's opposite in terms of personality and James and Ciarán really showed this when they were together on stage. I am equally as sure that James also has a great dramatic future ahead of him.
