ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season

Stella Hutchinson, as Audrey, used her wonderful comic timing used it to full advantage. She had us in hysterics as soon as the curtain went up. Each character that she portrayed had a well-defined identity. Even without costumes, I’m sure we would have been able to differentiate between them. Eddie Bradbury played the hapless stage manager. We have all come across a stage manager who reluctantly gets dragged on stage from time to time, despite wanting to hide in the darkness. His interpretation of the Inspector was a comic delight. Dawn Mallitt gave Thelma, the reigning Miss Farndale, her appearance during one of Mrs Reece’s moments with the audience, with the right degree of vanity, and was charmingly funny. Dawn also took on the role of Daphne, the daughter of Mrs King. The casting for this particular role was masterful. Her over the top acting, and dialogue with Inspector O’Reilly gave her performance lots of depth. Last and certainly not least, Lorraine Hall as Felicity. I utterly enjoyed Lorraine’s performance within this production, and one her most impressive scenes was when she had to play against herself as Pawn and Colonel. Whilst in productions like Jekyll and Hyde this is expected of the character, it’s an am dram’s worst nightmare when casting actors
