Whitworth AMDS welcomed audiences from around the Rossendale Valley and Rochdale for their most recent production of “A Night at the Movies”, a musical revue of movie soundtracks from across the decades.
A simple star-lit backdrop set the scene for this production with a simple yet effective lighting design by Adrian Montgomery, Connor O’Neill and Gerald Hinchliffe which enhanced each musical number. Sound for this production was on point throughout: Lea Royse and Elodie Perrier always bring it to the table when in charge. The numbers were well rehearsed, the staging was well put together and the choreography polished and highlighted each individual performer. Georgia Tylor and Emma Bradburn took inspiration from the movie and made it work for their dancers. It was lovely to see them recreate Bob Fosse’s masterpiece from Chicago, Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag (Annabelle Taylor &Jeyna Robinson) The company hosted the evening to help navigate through the jam packed programme for this evening’s show. The programme consisted of 33 numbers, from movies, such as Disney Classics, Bond, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Rent, including duets group numbers and solos, opening with “Everybody Needs Somebody” from the 80’s classic “Blues Brothers.” There was so much to enjoy from selections of the movie musical song book.
