THE CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens adapted by Brian Way directed by Tony Birch Droylsden Little Theatre
“A Christmas Carol” was a magical step back in time to the dark bleak Dickensian era. This adaptation directed by Tony Birch, for Droylsden little theatre, brought back all the feelings of watching the many film adaptions of this time old tale with my family growing up as a child. Whilst the initial disappointment of
Kermit, the frog and Miss Piggy not starring in this production as Bob and Mrs Cratchit subsided, I was excited to watch this festive favourite live on stage. The story follows Ebenezer Scrooge, an old man, who is well-known for his miserly ways and who was tight fisted when it came to money. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge (Steve Mallinson) is visited by a series of ghosts, starting with his old business partner, Jacob Marley (Ken Vare). Marley warns Scrooge that he will be visited by a further three ghosts. The three spirits which follow, the Ghosts of Christmas Past (Lily-Rae Lyne), Christmas Present (Mike Jordan) and Christmas to Come (Ken Vare), show Scrooge how his mean behaviour has affected those around
